The prison of morale, 2004

A documentary by Wiltrud Kremer | Arte/SWR | 30 min.

Most of the 55 women in Kabul's jail were sent there because of breach of ethics. Their own husbands, fathers or brothers put them in prison. Although Afghanistan has a new constitution women still cannot lead a free life. Especially in the country, things have hardly changed for centuries. This is where the tribals laws and the Islamic Sharia rule people's lives. Women's freedom and rights are taken by the archaic thinking of ethics and morals.

The documentary film gives a deeper view of women's lives in Afghanistan. You get to know Scharifa who fled from her husband because he abused her, and Maika who is accused of having killed her husband. The film also introduces "Medica Modiale" and "Rava", two organizations to help women in times of need.
