Cannery Row - Steinbeck Today (30 min.)
The town of Monterey is on the west coast of the United States, directly on the Pacific Ocean. The former capital of California was once also known as "The Sardine Capital of the World". "Cannery Row" was the main road where Monterey's famous fish canneries were situated. Today the seafood served here is fresh, not canned, and the fish canneries have long disappeared. But thanks to John Steinbeck's novel "Cannery Row", about the life and work of Monterey's fishing industry, the city attracts a steady stream of visitors who come along to see its heritage museums.
