Taliban Country, 2005 (45mins)

Arte/SWR

The Taliban have been driven from power in Afghanistan, but that does not mean they've disappeared. Modern, western influenced lifestyles, which can to some degree now be seen in Kabul, are being condemned by many Afghans as being sinful and not complying with the the word of Islam. The film takes a journey through the native area of the Pashtun region, the stronghold of the Taliban. Are the Taliban still being supported by the Paschtuni's? What are they trying to achieve nowadays?  The film team travel over  450 kilometers - first of all on roads, then through sand and over stoney ground, ending at the famous Kyber Pass. It is a dangerous and exhausting journey through rugged Taliban country.
The film maker Ghafoor Zamani is a Paschtuni. He has been living for almost 30 years in Europe. This journey into the Paschtuni region is also a journey back to his own roots.
